Spring Camping

Kevin is our ward scout master, so he goes camping once a month with his "boys." Needless to say, he doesn't usually want to do an extra camping trip with the family during the month. I am sure that has something to do with enblazened memories of children falling into the firepit, or the creek, or some other dangerous area! Our last family camping trip was out to Western Michigan in a little town called Ludington six years ago. It was beautiful there with the beach, quaint town, and a beautiful lighthouse. However, we remember the sand in every nook and cranny of a one year old's body, constant trips to the camp bathroom, overcrowded campground, and a long drive.

Finally, the silly sisters (Audrey and Maddie) convinced daddy that camping would be so fun. And, guess what, it was! Gone are the days that camping was a chore and treacherous. We had such a good time as a family. We went on a small hike, swung on a vine over the creek, and played card games. Kevin even made a dutch oven cobbler for dessert!

Maddie turns seven!

Happy Birthday to my sweet baby girl! It was fun to celebrate Maddie's birthday with just family. Grandpa ordered a cute cake for her, and we got to spend some time up at their house. We had a quiet family birthday for her on Sunday which consisted of her favorite breakfast, lunch, and dinner. She got zhu zhu pets which she had been asking for. She loved her cake, but not so much the hair catching fire!

School of Fishies

So Maddie and I went on a first grade field trip to the Dallas World Aquarium. We got to ride the school bus together, eat a picnic lunch, and enjoy all the fish. We got to see the sharks, birds from all around the world, huge manatees, and all kinds of other critters. We really enjoyed watching the diver feed those enormous fish. We had a fantastic day, and can't wait to return.

So glad winter is over!

When we moved away from Michigan, I was glad that my snow days were over unless I chose to visit it somewhere. Boy, was I wrong. This has been a record breaking winter for Dallas! We had so much snow (I know I am a wimp, but I've had my fill of it over the years!). The kids did enjoy missing some school and building snowmen. However, we don't have all the right gear like we once did, so it was a little more FREEZING cold than we remember!
